The glorious celebration of Newroz across all of East of Kurdistan (Kurdish: ڕۆژھەڵاتی کوردستان, Rojhilatê Kurdistanê), especially in Urmia, carried a powerful and clear message to the Iranian regime, a message that reflected the progressive and freedom-seeking spirit of the Kurdish people. The massive participation, especially of women and youth, stood in stark contrast to the ideological and oppressive mindset of the regime.
In response to this widespread demonstration of unity and resolve, Iran’s security and intelligence apparatus launched a coordinated media campaign full of sectarian and ethnic incitement. Their aim: to inflame conflict between Kurds and Turks, and undermine the strength of the Newroz movement by shifting the Kurdish liberation struggle away from its revolutionary and democratic goals.
Komala Party of Kurdistan (Kurdish: کۆمەڵەی زەحمەتکێشانی کوردستان) strongly condemns this calculated and divisive plan by the Islamic Republic of Iran. We call on the people of Kurdistan to remain vigilant and continue to resist such plots, and to direct their power against the true oppressor, the Islamic Republic.
We also hope that the Turkish community in Urmia will reject these government narratives and recognise the shared enemy in the regime’s divisive plans. The Kurdish people are peace-seeking and stand for mutual solidarity, not against other nations, but they firmly uphold their national rights and will not back down in the face of provocation.
Komala believes that peaceful coexistence between Kurds and Turks depends on the rejection of the Iranian regime’s plans, and the stability of the region depends on resisting sectarian conflict.
Long live the progressive and revolutionary movement of Kurdistan
No to racism, ethnic discrimination, and backwardness
Long live the unity of oppressed nations for liberation
