Condemnation of Terrorist Attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran Regime Against Refugees and Political Parties in the Kurdistan Region
To:
- Secretary-General and Security Council of the United Nations
- Government of the United States of America and allied countries
- Central Government of Iraq and international human rights organizations
Over the past 21 days, the Islamic Republic of Iran regime, continuing its systematic crimes, has flagrantly violated Iraq’s national sovereignty and international norms on multiple occasions. This regime has carried out a series of repeated and brutal missile and drone attacks relentlessly targeting refugee camps and the headquarters of political parties of Iranian Kurdistan. These organized aggressions occur while Kurdish political parties have been engaged for years in political struggles and pose no military threat to the region; therefore, these ongoing attacks serve only as a pretext to perpetuate a cycle of violence, repression, and instill fear.
These acts of aggression seriously endanger the lives of hundreds of civilians, including many children, and cause the forced displacement of vulnerable families under difficult humanitarian conditions.
We call on the international community, particularly the United States and its international allies, to:
- Use all available leverage to increase pressure on the Iranian regime to immediately stop these attacks and ensure the safety of refugees.
- Implement necessary measures to equip refugee accommodation areas with air defense systems to protect families and civilians from drone attacks.
- Deploy an independent investigative team to examine the extent of these crimes and identify the damages suffered by the refugees.
We urge the Iraqi government, as the host country, to:
- In accordance with international law, the Iraqi government is directly responsible for protecting the lives of Kurdish refugees and political activists on its territory. The Iraqi government must go beyond formal statements, guarantee the security of these individuals, and firmly oppose Iran’s violation of its sovereignty by raising this issue at the highest international levels.
The time to act is now. Silence in the face of these crimes is a green light for the continuation of state terrorism.
