With deep sorrow, we announce that at 4 AM on Sunday, 12 January 2025, the heart of Rebaba Kamangar (Kurdish: ڕەبابە خانمی کەمانگەر), full of hope and resilience, stopped beating in the city of Sari after nearly three years of illness at the age of 80.
She was the mother of Javad Jalili, a fallen Peshmerga of Komala and member of the Dalaho Unit, and the sister of martyrs and Komala members Kak Sadeq, Raoof, and Ma’rouf Kamangar, and the aunt of Komala martyr Dariush Rezaei, son of Kafia Khanim.
Rebaba Khanim, due to her family’s activism and opposition to the dictatorship of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was arrested twice — first in 1980 in Sine along with her sisters Hababa and Kafia, and her two-year-old grandson Saeed, and later in Tehran with her husband, child, and family members. She endured imprisonment in both cases.
She was born in the village of Afrani Saru in the Zhawaro area of Kamyaran (Sine province), from a family with a deep-rooted revolutionary legacy: 16 of her relatives were martyred for Komala and the Kurdish movement, and many more remain active in the political and Peshmerga struggle against the Islamic Republic and its oppression.
Despite all the pain and losses, she stood with dignity and strength behind her family, continuing to believe in the dream of freedom and justice. Her passing has left a profound impact, not just because of her own courage and sacrifices, but also due to the beloved legacy of the Kamangar family — whose name resonates across Kurdistan.
On this occasion, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Kamangar family, their loved ones, and all the people of Kurdistan. We consider ourselves part of this grief.
The name and memory of Kurdish mothers like Rebaba Khanim, symbols of strength and sacrifice, will live on in the hearts of our people and freedom fighters. Their suffering and contributions will never be forgotten.
