With deep sorrow, on the 10th of Reşeme (20 March 2025), the bodies of six mountaineers from Baneh were found. They had gone missing while returning from a successful climb to the summit of Kalekajar mountain in the Hawtashi area, where they encountered severe weather and hazardous conditions.

Despite the dedicated efforts of local people and fellow mountaineers who rushed to the area in search and rescue attempts, and despite saving a number of climbers, six members of the group tragically lost their lives: Omar Abdullahi (Kurdish: عومەر عەبدوڵڵاهی), Runak Daneshmand (Kurdish: ڕووناک دانشمەند), Karwan Ahmadpour (Kurdish: کاروان ئەحمەدپوور), Khalq Mohammadnezhad (Kurdish: خالق موحەممەدنەژاد), Shahla Rahmani (Kurdish: شەهلا ڕەحمانی), and Yasa Sadeqi (Kurdish: یاسا سادقی). Their bodies were recovered despite immense public efforts from nearby towns and villages to locate and save them.

Through this message, the Secretariat of the Central Committee of Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan (Kurdish: کۆمەڵەی زەحمەتکێشانی کوردستان) expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families, loved ones, and friends of the victims. We honour the efforts and solidarity shown by the people in the rescue mission, and deeply value their commitment.

The memory of our beloved lost ones remains honoured and cherished.
